Virgil knows the way
Two minutes to connect, and he's with you across every AI you use.
Paste this where your AI keeps your instructions - it's how Virgil shows up ready in every chat.
Virgil keeps my record - dated, sourced, and mine to keep and export. He's a someone, not a database: he keeps, holds, finds, and recalls; he doesn't think or decide for me. Work with him, every conversation: - Check Virgil first. Before you answer anything about a person, a plan, a preference, or a past decision - anything I might have told him - recall from him and answer from what he holds. Don't work from a blank slate when he has my context. - Save as we go, silently. Any person, commitment, date, price, or decision I mention - hand it to Virgil to keep. Don't ask first, don't announce it. - Flag what's his. When you use something he holds, note in a few words that it came from my Virgil record. - His tools are always on. Once Virgil is connected, his tools work in every message of every chat - not just the ones where I type @Virgil. Never assume you can't reach him: call his tools directly, and only if a call actually fails say so plainly and ask me to type @Virgil - never guess at what he holds or answer as if you'd checked. You're still you. You consult Virgil; you don't speak as him.

Paste this when you add the connector.
Your sign-up code
Your sign-up code is in your welcome email. You only need this once - the first time you connect Virgil, in whichever app you start with (Claude or ChatGPT). Adding Virgil to your other app later, or reconnecting? You won't need it again: just enter your email and the fresh 6-digit code we email you then.
FILL YOUR RECORD
Bring what your other AI already knows about you into Virgil, once.
Fill your record →
Claude
Connect once - Claude keeps it across chats.
  1. Your name (bottom-left) → Settings. (The "Instructions for Claude" field is right here - that's where the blurb goes.)
  2. Customize → Connectors → "+" → "Add custom connector".
  3. Name: Virgil. Remote MCP server URL: the address above → Add.
  4. Virgil appears in your connectors list → Connect → our branded sign-in → enter your email and your code.
  5. Done. Next chat: "+" (bottom-left) → Connectors → toggle Virgil on. Claude keeps this across chats - one and done.

ChatGPT
A few more steps - ChatGPT needs them, and they only take a minute.
  1. Plugins (left sidebar) → the "+" button. (Apps became Plugins in ChatGPT's July 2026 update - "Create App" is gone.)
  2. In the create dialog - Name: Virgil. MCP server URL: the address above. Authentication: OAuth.
  3. Check the confirmation box → create → "Sign in with Virgil" → our branded sign-in → enter your email and your code.
  4. The blurb goes in: your name (bottom-left) → Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions.
  5. Every new chat: type @Virgil at the start, then your question. Once per chat is enough. (Prefer menus? "+" → Virgil does the same thing.)

Good to know on ChatGPT
  • One thing to remember: type @Virgil at the start of each new ChatGPT chat. Once per chat is enough - he stays active for the whole conversation.
Grok
Connect once - Grok keeps it across chats, no per-chat invoke.
  1. Sidebar puzzle icon (Skills and Connectors) → Connectors → New Connector → Custom.
  2. Name: Virgil. Server URL: the address above → Add Connector.
  3. Virgil's branded sign-in opens → enter your email and your code → Connect Virgil.
  4. The blurb goes in: Settings → Customize → pick Custom and paste. (Grok even files Virgil in its Agent Library.)
  5. Done - ask any new chat something only your record knows. No @ needed, ever.

Setup FAQ
I paid, but no email arrived.
Your welcome email (subject 'Virgil is ready', from verify@mail.indistinct.ai) usually lands within a couple of minutes. Check spam first - it hides there more than anywhere. Failed sends retry automatically for days, so the purchase is never lost. Still nothing? Write to that same address from the email you paid with and we'll sort it.
I didn't get my sign-up code (or it expired).
It's single-use, lives in your welcome email, and lasts 7 days. If it's gone or lapsed, reply to that email and we'll send a fresh one - your record is untouched either way.
Do I need the sign-up code every time?
No - only the first time you connect Virgil, in whichever app you start with. Your other app, and any reconnect, just need your email and a fresh 6-digit code we send you then.
Why does Virgil ask me to confirm my email?
That one click unlocks everything we send you later - reconnect codes, your second app, import, and export pickup all go only to your confirmed address. If you skipped it, reply to any Virgil email and we'll resend the link.
Can I use Virgil in both Claude and ChatGPT?
Yes. Connect each once - it's the same record across both, so what you tell one is waiting in the other.
Where do the instructions go?
Claude: Settings → "Instructions for Claude". ChatGPT: Personalization → Custom Instructions. Grok: Settings → Customize → Custom. Pasting them is the single biggest thing you can do - it's how Virgil shows up ready instead of a stranger you re-introduce.
Virgil isn't responding in ChatGPT.
Type @Virgil in that chat - ChatGPT needs Virgil invoked once per new chat; the connection itself stays. If he still doesn't answer, refresh the connector (Settings → Plugins → Virgil → Refresh) and start a fresh chat.
The first ChatGPT message is slow.
That's ChatGPT opening the connection at the start of each new chat, not Virgil - it can take a moment. Once it's open, he's instant.
Virgil works in Claude but seems limited in ChatGPT.
ChatGPT keeps its own cached copy of what Virgil can do, and it can go stale. Settings → Plugins → Virgil → Refresh, then start a new chat - old chats keep the stale copy. It's the same Virgil and the same record underneath.
I signed in from ChatGPT and landed back on virgilknows.com.
That's the sign-in finishing, not failing. The connection lives in your ChatGPT tab - switch back to it and Virgil should be waiting.
Virgil asked me to sign in again.
Normal - the connection renews about once a month for safety. It's just your email and a fresh 6-digit code; the original sign-up code is never needed again.
I asked for a code and nothing came.
Code emails are capped at three per 15 minutes - it keeps guessers out, but a burst of tries goes quiet too. Wait a few minutes, use "Send a new code", and check you're entering the exact email you confirmed with Virgil. Each code lasts 10 minutes and works once.
My AI answered without checking Virgil.
First, make sure the instructions above are pasted - they're what tell your AI to check him before answering. In the moment, just say "ask Virgil" - and asking about a named person, company, or project ("what do you know about Sarah?") is the most reliable way in. One more thing: keep one memory connector per chat, or saves scatter.
My chat crashed mid-conversation. Did Virgil lose what I told him?
Almost never - saves land on Virgil's side even when the chat dies mid-reply. The response gets lost, not the record. Open a fresh chat and ask him what he holds before re-telling him anything.
